Dedicated to putting abandoned Tanzanian children on a path to a happy, healthy and productive life.

Love Our Tanzania Family is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated to providing for the welfare of the children of Tumaini For Africa Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. The orphanage is home to 30+ abandoned children ages 5 to 17 who have been taken off the streets of Arusha and put into a loving home environment. Your giving helps to provide food, shelter, clothing, medical care and, most importantly, a quality education to set each of these children on a path to a happy, healthy and productive life.

An Orphanage in Need Now

On a good day, life in Tanzania can be difficult, especially for families.  And when an unexpected hardship or tragedy occurs, and in the absence of a government safety net, the result is often the breakup of the family so the basic survival needs of the children can somehow be met.  Rescuing Arusha, Tanzania's abandoned children became the life's mission of Beatrice Mollel and resulted in the founding of Tumaini For Africa Orphanage.  Today her daughter Upendo continues her mother's work and builds on her legacy of giving Arusha's hardest hit children a loving home and hope for the future.  That hope is being fostered by the improved educational opportunities being provided to Tumaini's children through private English-speaking primary and secondary schools, college and university for those who qualify, and vocational training for those wanting to learn a trade.  The goal is to build the foundation needed for a happy, healthy and fulfilling independent life.  The combined effect of inflation and a deteriorating exchange rate means that for 2025, Tumaini will need more than $110,000 to cover the cost of food, clothing, education expense, orphanage facility maintenance, medical care, and basic hygiene. The need is big -- no gift is too small.  Will you help to feed a child or send him or her to a good school?

About Dennis & Peggy Crull

Peggy and Dennis Crull are the former owners of Wisconsin-based Cruise & Tour (formerly Downtown Travel), where they designed travel programs and led thousands of travelers to destinations worldwide over five decades. They have made well over a dozen trips to Africa, where they have come to know and love the people, and especially the children, of Tanzania. Initially the Crulls worked jointly with their safari members to fund basic needs at Tumaini such as bunkbeds to replace woven sleeping mats, a new refrigerator, a washer and dryer, a footbridge across the river, playground equipment, and even cows to produce milk for the orphanage kids and neighboring families. When Covid-19 wiped out tourism and orphanage support along with it, Peggy and Dennis formed their 501(c)(3) non-profit Love Our Tanzania Family (EIN 85-3811250). Since November 2021, tax-deductible gifts to Love Our Tanzania Family have funded the majority of orphanage education expense, projects such as a solar-electric power system, a water well with cross-river pipeline, a basketball court, reconstruction and expansion of the Activity Center, acquisition of an orphanage bus, and more. In the coming year, Love Our Tanzania Family will celebrate its first university graduate, Emmanuel, who will have risen from orphanage cowhand to become a teacher.
