Love Our Tanzania Family is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated to providing for the welfare of the children of Tumaini For Africa Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. The orphanage is home to 30+ abandoned children ages 5 to 17 who have been taken off the streets of Arusha and put into a loving home environment. Your giving helps to provide food, shelter, clothing, medical care and, most importantly, a quality education to set each of these children on a path to a happy, healthy and productive life.
An Orphanage in Need Now
COVID-19 has changed our lives and it has changed life at the orphanage, too. Tourism has all but vanished. It was the generosity of those now absent tourists that went a long way toward providing basic necessities such as food and medical care. Money was available to take children from the public schools, with class sizes up to 120, and place them into quality private schools where class sizes are in the 20s. While our past projects focused on improving basic infrastructure, basic nutritional needs and improving education quality are once again in doubt. Nearly $20,000 a year is needed just for food and basic hygiene items. $1,800 a year is needed for each child accepted into private schools for the school year beginning in January. The need is big -- no gift is too small. Will you help to feed a child or send him or her to a good school?
Future Projects
Once we have secured funding for a year of food and hygiene supplies and private school tuition for the year beginning January 2021, we would like to begin addressing urgent needs including:
Medical checkups
Filter for the water system
Security fence repair and lighting
Building and furnishings repairs and updates
Acquisition of a small bus for transporting the children
About Dennis & Peggy Crull
Peggy and Dennis Crull are the owners of Wisconsin-based Cruise & Tour (formerly Downtown Travel). The Crulls are in their fifth decade of showing people the world. They have designed and organized hundreds of travel groups and personally led their travelers on journeys to all seven continents including over a dozen trips to Africa, where they have come to know and love the people, and especially the children, of Tanzania.
