Our Vision
Our focus in supporting the orphanage lies in 6 basic areas
Nutrition
Funding to maintain a well-balanced, nutritious diet for the children on a continuous basis is lacking. Fresh meat, poultry and fish remains a luxury. Maintaining healthy bodies and minds through proper nutrition must be the first priority.
Lodging & Infrastructure
The buildings and facilities that make up the orphanage require continuous maintenance and care. Upgrades in basic security are needed. The continuation of modernization projects, such as the solar electric power system, water supply, solar water heaters, and washing machine, improves the lives of everyone at the orphanage.
Health & Wellness
Regular health checkups and screenings can detect and treat conditions at an early stage. Recent detection of HIV infection and a heart condition are examples. The use of mosquito nets and other measures is key to preventing malaria infection
Education
With some class sizes running as high as 120 students per teacher, the government-run public school system is completely inadequate. Funding is needed to get all of the children qualified for and into private school, where more qualified teachers are present and class sizes are more conducive to learning. For the older children, there is the opportunity for vocational, college and university education if they can qualify. We hope to provide scholarships for this advanced education, essential for them to lead a productive adult life.
Transportation
A generous donor provided funding to buy a used Nissan bus plus initial maintenance. The bus takes the kids to and from school, for visits to the medical clinic, and for events and activities off the orphanage grounds. Ongoing funding is needed to fuel, the driver salary, ongoing maintenance and insurance. Beyond pure transportation, the bus is exposing the kids to life outside the orphanage.
Recreation
While going to school and staying healthy is important, kids also need to have fun. Love Our Tanzania Family supports orphanage recreational facilities such as football (soccer) with new goal nets, balls and shoes. We have built a new basketball/netball court with adjustable height goal, all-weather synthetic court surface, and new basketballs in age-appropriate sizes. With the support of the Tanzania Basketball Federation, we hope to organize a 3 v 3 basketball game and clinic to inaugurate the new court. In addition to upgrading orphanage sports facilities, we have added a new 65" TV to the redesigned Activity Center for movie viewing.
