Our Vision
Our focus in supporting the orphanage lies in 6 basic areas
Nutrition
Funding to maintain a well-balanced, nutritious diet for the children on a continuous basis is lacking. Maintaining healthy bodies and minds through proper nutrition must be the first priority.
Lodging & Infrastructure
The buildings and facilities that make up the orphanage require continuous maintenance and care. Upgrades in basic security are needed. The continuation of modernization projects, such as the water supply, river footbridge and washing machine, improves the lives of everyone at the orphanage.
Health & Wellness
Regular health checkups and screenings can detect and treat conditions at an early stage. Recent detection of HIV infection and a heart condition are examples. The use of mosquito nets and other measures is key to preventing malaria infection
Education
With some class sizes running as high as 120 students per teacher, the government-run public school system is completely inadequate. Funding is needed to get all of the children qualified for and into private school, where more qualified teachers are present and class sizes are more conducive to learning. For the older children, there is the opportunity for vocational, college and university education if they can qualify. We hope to provide scholarships for this advanced education, essential for them to lead a productive adult life.
Transportation
Presently the orphanage has no vehicle of its own. A high capacity vehicle is needed for transporting the children to and from school during the rainy season, for visits to the medical clinic, and for events and activities off the orphanage grounds.
Support team
The successful operation of the orphanage depends on maintaining the quality of the support team consisting of the teachers, "mamas,” and others. Their health and well-being must therefore be maintained.
